As many atheists have found, it is hard to have a debate with a religious person without the event turning into one of name-calling, yelling, and all around insults; usually coming from both sides. Luckily, my friend Brian is not someone who will send me to hell every time I try to reason a religious argument, and he is firm enough in his believes that he has thought them through because it was important to him for them to be clear in his mind. So we decided to have a debate where each one of us could expose his ideas; and we decided to do this through blog posts so everyone could speak freely and to have some time to formulate our thoughts carefully.

There are two previous writings to this debate. The first one is an email I sent to the Richard Dawkins website, where I stated my impressions after reading the book The God Delusion, written by Dawkins himself. The other is Brian’s post on his blog, http://piqued.brianfrantz.com/?p=72, and which I will reply to in my next post, so we can begin the real debating part of the debate.
